"The Musicl Oshin City"

Follow the students' composing process below
—with audio examples of the students experimenting with each musical idea
The students began by drawing an underwater environment.

They chose six different elements of their underwater environment to include in their melody:
1. Waves moving in an up-and-down motion, getting small as they get closer to the shore

Waves
2. A kraken was represented by crunchy sounds—two notes played together

Kraken
3. A shark smoothly swimming back-and-forth, getting faster and faster

Shark
4. Footsteps in the sand—each time you take a step, your foot sink a little bit when you
pick up the other foot

Footsteps
5. A blue whale made an appearance singing "OoOoOoOooooh"

Blue Whale
6. The final creature is a squishy jellyfish whose sound fades away

Jellyfish

After completing their melody, the three students got to work with a chamber group of musicians from the Jacobs School of Music and local professionals to explore, experiment, and create the final version of their melody, "The Musicl Oshin City"
